SHOP LABORER

Shop laborers perform a variety of tasks in the machine shop. Tasks that require little skill and can be learned quickly. Other tasks require considerable experience or training. Shop laborers are often required to work outside in all kinds of weather or in buildings without heating or air conditioning. Some tasks are strenuous and include lifting of more than 50 pounds and pulling or jerking on heavy loads repetitively, situations involving suspended loads and backup general labor roles

Job Duties

The job duties of a shop laborer vary. They may include cleaning and preparing a shop, loading, and delivering materials and using a variety of tools and machines, such as blowtorches, forklifts, levels, lifts, power drills, grinders, saws, pressure washers and water spraying equipment. Shop Laborers set up and take down ladders, scaffolding and other temporary structures. They help Shop Foreman, Leadmen and Operators.

General Requirements

General construction Shop laborers must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination, and endurance. Shop Laborers must also be able to concentrate on their tasks. The ability to understand and communicate information is also essential.

Educational Requirements

There are no minimum educational requirements to be a Shop Laborer, but laborers who have specialized skills have the best opportunities. Must generally be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or its equivalent. On-the-job training and learning from more experienced contractors is a common way for general laborers to learn their job. High school classes in general shop, welding, mechanical drawing, blueprint reading, physics and mathematics are helpful. Professional organizations, such as the National Ground Water Association, are a benefit.

Specialized Training and Advancement

Laborers are encouraged to acquire at a minimum a current medical card, CDL Class A or B license preferred, confined space training, rigger training and forklift training.

General laborers are often required to work outside in all kinds of weather or in buildings without heating or air conditioning. Some tasks are strenuous and include lifting of more than 50 pounds and pulling or jerking on heavy loads repetitively, situations involving suspended loads, situations involving working on elevated platforms requiring fall protection.

Job Duties

The job duties of a general laborer vary. They may include cleaning and preparing a job site, loading and delivering materials and using a variety of tools and machines, such as blowtorches, forklifts, levels, lifts, power drills, grinders, saws, pressure washers and water spraying equipment. Laborers set up and take down ladders, scaffolding and other temporary structures. They help leadmen, operators, and other specialized contractors. At road construction sites, general laborers may control traffic. They set up markers, cones and barricades and may flag vehicles to control the traffic flow.

GENERAL LEADMAN

A leadman performs a variety of tasks at all kinds of construction sites. Tasks that require overseeing work of laborers and taking responsibility for job competition all while working under the instruction of management. Other tasks require considerable experience or training. Leadmen are often required to work outside in all kinds of weather or in buildings without heating or air conditioning. Some tasks are strenuous and include lifting of more than 50lbs and pulling or jerking on heavy loads repetitively, situations involving suspended loads, situations involving working on elevated platforms requiring fall protection. Documentation of job duties including but not limited to installation reports, pump test, boring logs, time sheets, driver logs, & any miscellaneous documentation.

Job Duties

The job duties of a Leadman vary. They may include but are not limited to working in concert with management to execute the job in the most cost effective manor, job preparation, collaboration with subcontractors, cleaning and preparing a job site, loading and delivering materials and using a variety of tools and machines, such as cranes, drill rigs, heavy equipment, blowtorches, forklifts, levels, lifts, power drills, grinders, saws, pressure washers and water spraying equipment to execute the job.

General Requirements

A Leadman must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination, and endurance. A Leadman must also be able to concentrate on their tasks and for see any possible requirements of the job, At that time, either take action or notify management to complete the job in the most cost effect manor. The ability to understand and communicate information is also essential.

Educational Requirements

There are no minimum educational requirements to be a Leadman, but a Leadman who has specialized skills have the best opportunities. Must generally be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or its equivalent. On-the-job training and learning from more experienced contractors is a common way for a Leadman to learn their job. High school classes in general shop, welding, mechanical drawing, blueprint reading, physics and mathematics are helpful. Professional organizations, such as the National Ground Water Association are a benefit.

PROJECT MANAGER

The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall construction of projects assigned. The successful candidate must possess the knowledge, experience, and confidence to engage and professionally interact with the design professionals, consultants and client while successfully directing the Site Superintendent, Leadman, and other construction related personnel in planning, coordinating and safely executing the work in accordance with the contract documents, schedule and budget. This individual will work closely with the client and fulfill an integral role on the project.

Candidate must be professional and a personable leader committed to the overall objective and self development within the company.

Job Duties (include the following, however, other duties may apply):
  • Preparation of the project schedule
  • Review the project plans and specifications and comment on the design, scheduling, possible cost savings measures and potential construction problems
  • Preparation of project budget
  • Assist in assembling the job site and equipment requirements
  • Intelligently communicate with client as well as effectively lead the trades
  • Expedite all shop drawings and approval
  • Monitor and maintain the project construction schedule
  • Raise and discuss relevant issues at the job site meetings
  • Expedite all change order costs. Maintain current CO logs
  • Monitor site safety and ensure that the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act are enforced
  • Issue monthly progress draws and invoicing to the client including final holdbacks
  • Maintain and enforce good construction standards and quality control
  • Maintain control and responsibility for the security and operation of NWS’s directly owned equipment on the job site in conjunction with site staff
  • Control and monitor labor, material and equipment expenses. Prepare monthly cost forecasting summaries
  • Ensure that “as-built” drawings are prepared on an ongoing basis by all trades during the construction period and issue final close-outs to owner accordingly
  • Ensure all required municipal inspections are performed
  • Prepare and expedite project deficiency lists
Educational Requirements

To be considered for this position you will possess the following skills, attributes, and abilities:

  • Minimum 5 Years experience as a Project Manager on drilling, well & pump projects
  • College or university degree in a construction related field
  • Must have understanding of construction terms, scheduling and planning concepts
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, and Excel
  • Excellent organizational, presentation, and interpersonal skills
